Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. It's overcast, may be sprinkly later, and will only be mid 40s today. Since we need rain, and these temps are closer to "normal", I guess I can't complain ... especially since we had the gift of a perfectly lovely weekend!
Yesterday: It was a very busy but productive day (for a change! LOL!). Two more shelf units for the upstairs storage got assembled (the easiest ones ever - wish we had found these first!); the area for our garden has it's first bit of prep work done; all of the extention cords and timers from the outside decorations are packed; and the shelves in the den are emptied, and the unit moved out to the porch. Of course, in the process of doing all that I seem to have messed up something on the TV ... now none of them work right! LOL!
Today: I'm waiting for a new "entertainment center" (3 pieces, TV cabinet & 2 shelf units) to be delivered. Once that is taken care of, I'll adjust cleaning and errands depending on how much time I have. There's always more to do, so will just see what I can do. :)

Good Morning! Sunday January 30, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. Yesterday was a perfectly gorgeous day, and today looks to be only a slighter cooler copy of it. It's clear and sunny, and will get to the low 50s.
Yesterday: I had a very busy day, trying to get a lot of errands done. I couldn't get the oil change done (they were too busy), so will try to get that on Monday. But pretty much everything else - at least the important stuff - got done.
Today: Today will be some at home projects, no running around! I plan to finish cleaning off all the shelves in the cabinet in the den, and also - since it's such a nice day - get the area where the garden will be "burned off" so we can start prepping the ground. Hopefully there will also be time to assemble 2 more shelf units upstairs ... that will make a place for all the storage totes easily accessible! Yay! :)
Today is "Inane Answering Machine Message Day" ... "Wolf Moon" ... "King's Birthday (Jordan)".
Quotes of the Day:
"I can win an argument on any topic, against any opponent. People know this, and steer clear of me at parties. Often, as a sign of their great respect, they don't even invite me."

Good Morning! Saturday January 29, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. Today we get sunshine and highs possibly in the low 60s. It will be a gorgeous day, a nice "reprieve" from all the gloomy and cold stuff we've had lately. If I can't have snow, I'd like sunshine! LOL!
Yesterday: We had another doctor's appointment to go go, and it was not a great day. Between traffic, getting lost, not getting to eat, more traffic ... well, least said the better! It's done, and we don't have to find that particular location again.
Today: I hope to take advantage of the weather and do a lot of errands. I have many stops to make, and hope to have time for some quick projects at home too. I got a LOT of sleep for a change, so hoping I don't fizzle! LOL!

Good Morning! Friday January 28, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. It's overcast, but not "dark and gloomy"; the forecast said a "possibility" of an early morning flurrie .. if that happened, I missed it! LOL! It will be low 50s today, and maybe a bit of sun peeping out by afternoon.
Yesterday: It was an all day at the clinic day, squeezing in 2 appointments (along with the always-done labs and vitals) ... we didn't get out until after 5:30. Once we got closer home and past the worst of the traffic back-up, we stopped for a quick bite at Bo-Jangles; then, when we got almost home, we stopped at Jimmy's sister's for a "quick" (over an hour) visit. So ... nothing got done at home! :)
Today: Today is another appointment, but it should go a lot quickler. It's much earlier; although we're not familiar with this doctor yet, so don't know if he runs on time or not. Hopefully we'll be out by mid afternoon ... and have time for fun stuff like picking up prescriptions, and getting the oil changed! LOL!
Today is "Fun at Work Day" ... "Anniversary - Challenger Space Shuttle Explosion".
Quotes of the Day:
"Boyhood, like measles, is one of those complaints which a man should catch young and have done with, for when it comes in middle life it is apt to be serious."

-- Nancy Astor
"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do."

Good Morning! Thursday January 27, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning! It's pale blue and gold ... announcing a bright sunny day ahead. It will be mid to upper 40s - not "warm", but certainly not freezing either. Of course, being inside most of the day, it doesn't much matter. :)
Yesterday: For a work day, it wasn't bad. The work load is very light (though I'm quite sure that is only temporary!), but late in the day I was given a project I can "get my teeth into" (more of a challenge). That'll take me through work days next week too. Last night ... between watching Dancing and singing ... I got 2 loads of laundry done, dinner cooked and kitchen cleaned, and a bit of sewing done. :)
Today: This is a "regular" clinic day, which means all day long just sitting and waiting. I've already done on-line pre-check in; but it's still waiting. In theory, first appointment is 10:00 ... but that's only for getting vitals. The doctors don't even show up until 1:00, and there's another appointment at 2:00. Hmmm ... this could be interesting! LOL!
Today is "Mozart Day" ... "Thomas Crapper Day" ... "UN International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust" ... "Anniversary - Auschwitz Liberated" ... "Day of Remembrance for Victims of Nazism (Germany)" ... "Holocaust Memorial Day (UK)".

Good Morning! Tuesday January 25, 2011
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. It's light out, but cloudy. Today should be low 40s and mostly cloudy. There might be rain by this afternoon or evening, but a bit too warm for snow. I'm so jealous that my son ... at the NC coast!! .... got snow on the weekend and we didn't! LOL! As the weather guy says, there's lots of winter left.
Yesterday: It actually turned out to be a good day. I got a very late start ... had trouble getting myself in gear. But, once I got going, we took a huge amount of *stuff* OUT of the house! Trash and plastic went to the dump, cans and other metal went to a recycling place, and I even found a place to take old computers and electronics ("anything with a cord") without having to pay! :) Then we went shopping (found a cabinet to help organize kitchen junk); I still managed to finish putting away all laundry, and do some sewing!
Today: It's back to work today. It's another back-to-back Monday/Friday for me. Hopefully by tonight I won't be too drained to sew some more ... I'm so near finishing this quilt now! :)
Today is "National Speak Up and Succeed Day" ... "A Room of One's Own Day" ... "Anniversary - Macintosh Computer (Apple)".
Quotes of the Day:
"The man who has confidence in himself gains the confidence of others."
-- Hasidic Saying
"Too many people think only of their own profit. But business opportunity seldom knocks on the door of self-centered people. No customer ever goes to a store merely to please the storekeeper."
-- Kazuo Inamori
"I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me."
-- Noel Coward
Today in history:
In 1533, Henry VIII of England secretly married Anne Boleyn, his second wife.
In 1554, the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, was established.
In 1858, Mendelssohn's "The Wedding March" was played at the marriage of Friedrich of Prussia and England's Princess Victoria, the daughter of Queen Victoria. It became a standard theme for weddings.
In 1890, Nellie Bly, a young New York reporter, completed a trip around the world in 72 days, 6 hours and 11 minutes.
In 1915, transcontinental phone service was inaugurated in a hookup between New York and San Francisco.
In 1919, the League of Nations was founded. It lasted until 1946 when it was replaced by the United Nations.
In 1924, the first Winter Olympic Games opened in Chamonix, France.
In 1959, the first scheduled transcontinental flight took place, a non-stop American Airlines flight from California to New York.
In 1961, newly inaugurated U.S. President John Kennedy had the first televised presidential news conference.
In 1984, Apple's Macintosh computer went on sale. Price tag: $2,495.
In 2004, Opportunity, the second of two NASA robot explorers, landed safely on Mars, joining its twin to explore the planet.

Good Morning! Monday January 24, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. It'll be mild today, mid 40s, and mostly cloudy. The storm system that they've been predicting for several days now suddenly has "shifted", and apparently we won't get much of anything. They don't "rule out the possibility" of a stray flurrie .. but I seriously doubt I'll see any of that! LOL!
Yesterday: We had a good day, not terribly busy. The kitchen got a good cleaning (counters cleared mainly), and we put together a shelf unit. It was not as good as the others, but it's up (and full! LOL!). Mostly we dreamed and planned ... about this year's garden, and next year's decorating. :)
Today: I have a bit of laundry to finish putting away, and plan to run some errands this afternoon. Cans and other metal will go to the recycler; I found a place to get rid of an old monitor; and I'm looking for some more storage solutions.
Today is "Belly Laugh Day" ... "National Compliment Day".
Quotes of the Day:
"The art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook."
-- William James
"When dealing with the insane, the best method is to pretend to be sane."
-- Hermann Hesse
"Some mornings it just doesn't seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps."
-- Emo Phillips

In 1916, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that an income tax was unconstitutional.

Good Morning! Sunday January 23, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. Yesterday's clouds are gone, and it's clear and bright. It'll be warmer than yesterday, mid 40s, and the clouds coming back later in the afternoon. For several days they've been hinting at more "winter weather" to come; but now they're saying it's too warm for anything frozen and we'll get much needed rain. Sadly for the snow-lovers, this is more typical NC weather!
Yesterday: It was a very busy day, but turned out well. Everything got done (a major achievement for me! LOL!), a few friends from work came over, and all in all everything went nicely. It was close to dark when the last people left; and then I took my niece home, and another friend home.
Today: I have things to do, but it's going to be a little bit lazy day. I'm already running behind "schedule". Oh well. LOL! I have a few more dishes to wash up, and have laundry going. I think this afternoon we'll put together one more shelf unit upstairs; and then dream about a garden. Spring can't be too far off ... can it? :)
Today is "National Handwriting Day" ... "National Pie Day" ... "Snowplow Mailbox Hockey Day" ... "Babin Den (Bulgaria".
Quotes of the Day:

Good Morning! Saturday January 22, 2011
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. It's overcast, but not "dark and gloomy"; but it's very cold. The prediction for today is only mid 30s, but dry. It's once again below "normal", and *maybe* more wintery stuff next week.
Yesterday: It was a long and mostly boring day, and all clinic days tend to be. We did manage to find time to meet a dear friend for lunch/coffee break, and that was nice. We met with yet another doctor (and got good news for a change!). We hit most of the worst of the evening traffic, so by the time we got home, I just wimped out of doing anything! LOL!
Today: Some friends are coming over this afternoon for a "jewelry party". It's an excuse to have some friend come visit, eat yummy junk food, and visit; and maybe even buy some pretty bling! :) Until then, I'll be scrambling to finish getting the house in order; and after, I'll be taking my niece back home. Maybe this evening I'll be able to just rest and sew some.
Today is "Answer Your Cat's Question Day" ... "Celebration of Life Day" ... "Saint Vincent's Feast Day" ... "Anniversary - Roe vs Wade" ... "Ukrainian Day (Ukraine)".

Good Morning! Friday January 21, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. It's bright and clear for now, with clouds expected later tonight. It will be low 40s and windy, making it a cold and blustery day.
Yesterday: It was a relatively "easy" day for a work day. I got caught up with what I needed to do, and that even included having a 2 hour lunch for a hair appointment. After work I picked up my niece, and on the way home we stopped by the grocery store and KFC. I didn't get anything done at home, so will have to get busy tonight and in the morning.
Today: It's yet another clinic day. There are 2 appointments today; but they're in the afternoon (which means, as usual, getting that rush hour traffic coming home). I'm hoping before the appointments we have time to meet up with a friend who works at Duke. :)
Today is "International Fetish Day" ... "National Hugging Day".
Quotes of the Day:
"Don't bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself. "

-- Ernest Benn

Good Morning! Thursday January 20, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. The clouds have cleared again, and it's pale gold and clear. Today will not be as warm as yesterday, but low 50s is near "normal". It will be a mild sunny winter day. :)
Yesterday: Work days aren't so bad when you have Monday/Friday back to back! LOL! Still, it's draining to be cooped up without even windows all day. When I got home I had to arrange yet another Duke appointment; but after that, dinner and than TV. Wow, I got to watch Dancing and singing (sort of). I'm still unsure how AI will turn out this season, but I'll give it a try ... I can always change the channel! LOL!
Today: I have one more work day, and it will be "broken" by a hair appointment this afternoon. I've always had a hard time getting myself "together" in the morning .. it's even harder with fewer days. After work I'm to go pick up my niece for a few days, and probably a stop by the grocery store. I doubt I'll get much else done tonight, but that's ok. :)
Today is "Get to Know Your Customer Day" ... "Tu B'Shvat (Jewish)" ... "Women in Blue Jeans Days" ... "Women's Healthy Weight Day" ... "Martyrs Day (Azerbaijan)".
Quotes of the Day:
"Whoever ceases to be a student has never been a student."

Good Morning! Wednesday January 19, 2011
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. It's gray and rainy; but they've been saying we're way behind on rainfall, so we need it. It'll be warm again today, upper 50s (maybe even 60) ... so we're back to what's "normal" here. If it's wet, it warms; if it's cold, it gets dry. :)
Yesterday: It was a long day, a lot of "go here and wait", "go there and wait". Clinic hours are frustrating to say the least! And then there's the drive home in all that traffic. Well, we survived, so I guess it's all ok. :)
Today: Today is back to work for me. It's one more week of back-to-back Monday then Friday! I hope by tonight I find a little burst of energy to work on cleaning or decluttering something ... but I usually don't! LOL!
Today is "Tin Can Day" ... 'Tu B'Shvat (Jewish - begins at sundown)" ... "Wolf Moon" ... "Confederate Heroes Day (Texas)" ... "Timket (Ethiopia)".
Quotes of the Day:
"In the absence of clearly-defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily trivia until ultimately we become enslaved by it."

Good Morning! Tuesday January 18, 2011
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. It's a little overcast, but not supposed to be rainy past this morning. It will be lower 50s again, see-sawing between warm and cool.
Yesterday: In the end, we got a lot done, but it was a crazy day. I hadn't planned any errands, but ended up having to go pick up meds ... which turned out not to be something needed right away. Oh well, it got done. The decluttering got done. Of course, all the things that need to find new homes (as in donated, recycled, etc) got stashed in the van in the yard so they're out of the house! LOL! There's a lot of trash, too, but I'll get that today.
Today: It's been a busy morning, with laundry, dishes, bagging trash. Shortly we'll leave for Duke for yet another day of sitting around clinic waiting rooms! I'll probably finish my James Patterson book and be looking for something else! LOL!
Today is "Pooh Day" ... "Rid the World of Fad Diets and Gimmicks Day" ... "Anniversary - Lewis & Clark Expedition Commission".

"It's a poor sort of memory that only works backward."

Good Morning! Monday Jaunary 17, 2011
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. It'll be a lot cooler than yesterday, mid 40s; also cloudy with a chance of sprinkles by this afternoon. Well, every day can't be sunny and warm. :) At least there's no more snow forecast for awhile.
Yesterday: It wasn't terribly productive at home, though I did get some laundry and dishes done, and cooked dinner (Me? cook??). My shopping trip was disappointing in not getting what I most wanted; but I did get the important things I needed, so it was not a bad day. It got way warmer than predicted (upper 60s!), so it was lovely to be out and about.
Today: Today has gotten off to a slow start, but I'm really hoping to be very productive. I have to get my "public" rooms cleared of all the clutter from upstairs. This will be my only day this week to work on it, so I will have to just dig in and "get 'er done"! LOL!
Today is "Judgment Day" ... "Kid Inventor's Day" ... "Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (observed)" ... "St. Anthony's Day (Christian)" ... "Anniversary - PGA of America" ... "Liberation Day (Poland)".
Quotes of the Day:
"You cannot go around and keep score. If you keep score on the good things and the bad things, you'll find out that you're a very miserable person. God gave man the ability to forget, which is one of the greatest attributes you have. Because if you remember everything that's happened to you, you generally remember that which is the most unfortunate."
-- Hubert H. Humphrey
"The bitterest tears shed over graves are for words left unsaid and deeds left undone."
-- Harriet Beecher Stowe
"Seeing a murder on television... can help work off one's antagonisms. And if you haven't any antagonisms, the commercials will give you some."
-- Alfred Hitchcock

Good Morning! Sunday January 16, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning! Today should be right about "normal", low 50s and mostly sunny. After 2 days of upper 40s and sun, there is still a lot of ice in my yard, especially parts of the driveway. Hopefully today the driveway parts, if not the shady areas of yard, will finally melt off.
Yesterday: I had a very busy but productive day. For starters, I did NO shopping! I know, hard to believe, but it's true! LOL. I got a huge amount accomplished upstairs. We got the 3rd shelf unit assembled (and like them so much, I'm going to look for 2 more ... and not have any storage tubs stacked on each other!). I have a big area all clean and empty for storing Christmas trees (and yes, eventually, I really will take them up there), a designated wrapping area, and can actually get to everything that's stored. I still have some minor re-arranging and cleaning to do, but even if I don't get to that right away, it'll be ok. As a reward for all the hard work, we all went out to our favorite Italian restuarant. :)
Today: This afternoon I'm going on the hunt for a "router". I'm still not sure if that's what it's actually called ... but the "card" that makes my computer wireless. Being "tethered" to a phone line is bad enough ... but lately (or any time there's bad weather), the phone line keeps getting disconnected, and I'm having to dial up over and over ... well phooey on that! LOL! If the computer business doesn't take too long, I'll try to work on decluttering "public" rooms (where all the discarded stuff from upstairs landed! LOL!)
Today is "Appreciate a Dragon Day" ... "Golden Globe Awards" ... "National Nothing Day" ... "Religious Freedom Day" ... "World Religion Day" ... "Haru-No-Yabuiri (Japan)" ... "John Chilembwe Day (Malawi)" ... "National Day of Peace (El Salvador".
Quotes of the Day:
"The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug."
-- Mark Twain
"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it always to be kept alive."
-- Thomas Jefferson
"Miracles: You do not have to look for them. They are there, 24-7, beaming like radio waves all around you. Put up the antenna, turn up the volume - snap... crackle... this just in, every person you talk to is a chance to change the world... "
-- Hugh Elliott

Good Morning! Saturday January 15, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. It's a little overcast now, but by afternoon it should be mostly sunny and upper 40s. Wow, that will feel like a heat wave after the winter we've had so far! LOL!
Yesterday: The day got off to a slow start; but by the end of the day, 2 shelf units were assembled upstairs; 2 very old computers were dismantled (sorting out recyclable metal), and I'm beginning to see actuall floor space.
Today: I have one more shelf unit to assemble, and then I hope to get most of the room organized. There's still a lot up there, but I'll at least make a very significant dent in it! Oh, yeah, and the "normal" stuff still needs to be done ... laundry, cleaning, dinner, dishes (although I think we'll probably eat out tonight!) :)
Today is "Bald Eagle Appreciation Day" ... "Humanitarian Day" ... "Miss America Pageant Day".
Quotes of the Day:
"Live in such a way that you would not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip."
-- Will Rogers
"One ought, every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words."
-- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
"Live neither in the past nor in the future, but let each day's work absorb your entire energies, and satisfy your widest ambition. "
-- Sir William Osler

In 1967, the first Super Bowl, pitting the NFL and AFL champions, was played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with the Green Bay Packers defeating the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-10.
In a 2006 runoff, Chile elected Michelle Bachelet as its first female president.

Good Morning! Friday January 14, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. There's still a fair amount of snow and ice on the ground. But, it's clear and bright and should remain so, and reach low 40s. That should melt away a lot more (although my driveway still has some huge icy spots in the shady areas).
Yesterday: It was a work day, so not much accomplished at home - unless you count purging email folders! LOL! I hope eventually (sooner rather than later) to drop "Earthlink", but have to save things I want to keep first. I found a lot I didn't want to keep! :)
Today: After a few errands in town, I'm really hoping to get 2 shelf units assembled upstairs. Once I get boxes on those, it will free up floor space, and I can finish cleaning and be ready to pack up Christmas. Eventually. LOL!
Today is "Ratification Day".
Quotes of the Day:
"What's another word for Thesaurus?"
-- Steven Wright
"Another possible source of guidance for teenagers is television, but television's message has always been that the need for truth, wisdom and world peace pales by comparison with the need for a toothpaste that offers whiter teeth *and* fresher breath."
-- Dave Barry

"Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live."
-- Oscar Wilde

Good Morning! Thursday January 13, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. Most of the snow and ice is gone, but what's left is reflecting the pale pink and gold sky where the sun is just coming up. It stayed clear yesterday, and will be today, but only upper 30s. We're heading toward a "warming" trend (so far, we've had the 3rd coldest January ... too many records being set!).
Yesterday: Since it was a work day, the only thing I got done was one load of laundry. I did get to watch the Dance show. I was later getting to sleep, because the speech made everything run later. It's OK, today is my Friday! LOL!
Today: One more work day this week. I did clear off my sewing table last night (again), so hopefully I will work on quilt blocks tonight. :)
Today is "Old New Year's Eve (Russia)" ... "Liberation Day (Togo)" ... "Tyvendedagen (Norway)".

Good Morning! Wednesday January 12, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. It's quite clear right now, though the forecast is for partly cloudy. It should go to the upper 30s, which will melt away a lot of the remaining snow and ice - although, there's also a possibility of flurries this afternoon. The news says that the main roads are (mostly) clear ... my driveway isn't. I can't tell about the road out front; but I have to get to work, so hopefully it'll be ok. :)
Yesterday: I wasn't able to do what I had hoped upstairs ... assembling the shelf unit is a 2-person job. Instead, I cleaned out the coat closet! LOL! Also I cleared off the dining room table and got out some fabric to get projects ready for sewing. I didn't get as far as I wanted on that, but it's a start. There were dishes to do, laundry to put away, and supper to cook. Oh yeah, and I spent tooooo much time on the computer! :)
Today: I have to get to work; once I get to a main road I know I'll be OK. I doubt I'll get anything done after work ... and tonight the Dance competition continues. :)

Good Morning! Tuesday January 11, 2011
Good morning! It is a beautiful morning. Seriously. It is awesomely beautiful ... everything covered with snow, then ice ... glittering like diamonds! Of course, that's as long as you don't have to go out in it (unless you're really into COLD sports or something). My porch is a sheet of ice now; but it should get above freezing today, so by afternoon the ice closest to the house will be gone. The roads (back roads where I live) will depend on how much traffic braves it today. I think they said it'll stay cloudy though, so no sun to help with the thawing process.
Yesterday: We left here by early afternoon to run errands. All the snow had melted, but there were still just a few "lazy snowflakes, dancing in the air". I had to skip one errand (office closed), but got to the PO. When we got to the next town ... wow, it was starting to snow again, hard! Later, when we were done and came out of Wal-Mart ... Wow! Everything was covered again, and still coming down hard. We stopped for a quick late lunch, and skipped the rest of the planned stops. And, I really didn't get much of anything else done. Apparently, I have today instead! LOL!
Today: Since I'm not going to try to get out of here, I will get busy on the upstairs room today. I'd get more done if I could figure out what to do with years worth of "dead" computers & parts! LOL!
Today is "Anniversary - "Designated Hitter" Rule" ... "Independence Day (Morocco)" ... "National Unity Day (Nepal)".

"Goodness is the only investment that never fails."

Good Morning! Monday January 10, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. I woke up to Snow! Yes, again - amazing! Even a cloudy day looks lovely when it's snowing. Unfortunately, it will get to mid 30s today, and by late afternoon the snow will probably change over to ice and sleet. The roads will be treacherous tomorrow. This is becoming a most strange winter!
Yesterday: It was a good or bad day, depending on your point of view! LOL! I got very little done at home (although I did put in some "qualify" time in cleaning upstairs). One of my favorite stores had Christmas items at 70% off ... well of course I had to check that out! :) Trouble is, most of their stuff is hugely overpriced to start with, so didn't get much. I also went by Wal-Mart for a few groceries and a few other mundane items.
Today: Plans for today have changed, of course, due to snow. I'll still work in the upstairs room; but won't have help. I'm afraid by late afternoon the roads might be too icy to go back out. I do, however, have to go out in early afternoon to pick up meds. Right now the roads are reasonably clear, and the snow has nearly stopped (or at least seems to have!). I don't think I'll have any trouble, but definitely plan to be back home before dark! :)
Today: "National Clean Off Your Desk Day" ... "National Cut Your Energy Costs Day" ... "Anniversary - Women's Suffrage Amendment" ... "Coming-of-Age Day (Japan)" ... "Plough Monday (UK)".
Quotes of the Day:
"They can conquer who believe they can."

-- Thomas H. Huxley
"Most conversations are simply monologues delivered in the presence of witnesses."
-- Margaret Millar
Today in history:
In 1776, "Common Sense" by political philosopher Thomas Paine was published.
In 1901, oil was discovered at the Spindletop claim near Beaumont, Texas, launching the Southwest oil boom.

Good Morning! Sunday January 9, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. It's very cold, but clear and bright. I'm not really sure what the forecast is (it keeps changing, and I missed the report last night); but I believe another "system" is heading our way. It seems to be very undecided if we'll get snow or not. But ... yesterday while at my sister's house ... it DID snow!! The sun was still shining, which was really weird. But it snowed a lot, just not for long. Hmmm ... that's snow on 4 out of the last 5 weekends, and possibly more coming.
Yesterday: I had a truly lovely day, most of it spent at my sister's house for my niece's baby shower. It was a lot of fun, good to get with family as always, and met some new "family" (relatives of nephew-in-law). The girls came up with some funny games ... grown men drinking (chocolate milk) from a baby bottle for example. And, there was some really good food!! (My BIL makes killer chili!!). :)
Today: I haven't made a list yet, so not really sure what I'll do today. One of my favorite (but highly overpriced) stores has their Christmas stuff down to 70% off ... might go see if there's anything worth having left! LOL! And, I will find some time to continue the work on cleaning and organizing the upstairs. I'll have to remember to open the door (at the top of the stairs) for awhile first, so it won't be too cold to go up there! :)
Today: "Martyrs' Day (Panama)" ... "Balloon Ascension Day" ... "Positively Penguin Day" ... "Stephen Foster Day"
Quotes of the Day:
"Human beings are the only creatures that allow their children to come back home."

Good Morning! Saturday January 8, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. The forecast for today is cloudy, but at the moment it's quite clear (though not yet "bright"). It will be lower 40s, and windy. Earlier in the week they were talking about snow today, but the "pattern" changed, and that's now out other than possibly a stray flurry. The next storm coming looks like it will also skip the snow. We've already had snow 4 times ... so am I disappointed? Today, no. Next week ... you betcha! LOL!
Yesterday: It was a very busy day. While I didn't get as much done as I hoped on the cleaning project, I got a lot more errands done than I expected. Several bills got paid, and my car got fixed!! (nothing "serious" .. a burnt out turn signal light, and the window washer fluid was out, making a warning light come on. But, we couldn't get the hood open. The hood latch got fixed, as well as the other problems!)
Today: We're going to my sister's house for a baby shower for my youngest niece. That will be fun - seeing family as much as anything. Later in the afternoon I will continue working on cleaning the upstairs room so I can (eventually) put the Christmas stuff back up. :)
Today: "National Joygerm Day" ... "Saint Gudula Feast Day (Christian)" ... "Show & Tell Day at Work" ... "Midwife's Day/Women's Day (Greece)".

Good Morning! Friday January 7, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. The sky is still cloudy and gray, but there's a trace of pink at the horizon. The clouds will thicken up through the day, and maybe there will be showers or sprinkles. It will be mid 40s, but later as the temps go down we might see a few snowflakes. They seem to change the weather map hourly, so hard to guess if any flakes will reach my area; but probably not.
Yesterday: It was a good day at work, I finished all the work I had set for myself, and with surprisingly few interruptions. At home, I got a little bit of organizing and decluttering done, though not as much as I should have (as usual! LOL!).
Today: I have a long "to do" list for today, making up for what I should have gotten done earlier. It's harder to push myself to get busy on gray days, so will be getting some help to motivate me! :)
Today: "I'm Not Going To Take It Anymore Day" ... "Orthodox Christmas/(Russia)" ... "Nanakusa (Japan)".
Quotes of the Day:
"The summit of happiness is reached when a person is ready to be what he is."
-- Desiderius Erasmus
"We need anything politically important rationed out like Pez: small, sweet, and coming out of a funny, plastic head."
-- Dennis Miller
"Anger is the feeling that makes your mouth work faster than your mind."

Good Morning! Thursday January 6, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. It's cloudy now, but will be mostly sunny by this afternoon. It was raining earlier (forecast said chance of flurries, but I believe that was to the north of me), but it's stopped now. They're still saying possibility of snow in a few more days ... we'll see (they usually change it when they forecast so far ahead!)
Yesterday: I made it to work, and *nearly* on time! LOL! I had to run by Wal-Mart on the way home (Maggie needed food!); and then I got a load of laundry put away. That's mostly it, except for working on blocking in items on a calendar. I always manage to forget something, but trying hard to get everything written down. I'm hoping this will be the year I don't forget anyone's birthday or anniversary. I also watched the Dance show ... I like it, but in a few weeks it will have major competition. I need a recorder! :)
Today: One more work day, and then a long weekend. I'm liking this ... except for the working part. LOL! Tonight I need to do yet more laundry, and finish putting away some Christmas stuff (like clothes and such). Hopefully I can at least get that done! :)

Good Morning! Wednesday January 5, 2011
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. It's going to start out clear ... just palest gold and a touch of pink starting to show now. It will only go to upper 40s, with clouds moving in by late afternoon. The forecast says the "S" word is possible at least 3 times in the next week ... it's already been an unusual winter. More snow would be weird! LOL!
Yesterday: It was a very long day. There were only 3 appointments after all, but they took from 7:00 to 4:00. We stopped to eat on the way home, and both of us pretty much crashed! Yesterday: It was a very long day. There were only 3 appointments after all, but they took from 7:00 to 4:00. We stopped to eat on the way home, and both of us pretty much crashed! Good Morning! Tuesday January 4, 2011
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. It's ridiculously early, and still dark; but I believe today will be partly to mostly cloudy, and in the lower 50s. Overall, it sounds like it will be a fairly mild day.
Yesterday: The waiting at the clinic wasn't as long as I thought it would be. We got home by mid afternoon, and I got some cleaning done, some laundry, and took care of a bunch of (yuck) bills. Not much else, as I did try to get to sleep a bit earlier.
Today: We have to be at the clinic by 7:00, and it's just over an hour drive. Not fun; but at least they scheduled 4 more appointments today to save multiple future trips! Still, it will be all day, and probably driving home in "rush hour" .. wish me luck! LOL!
Today: "Dimpled Chad Day" ... "Trivia Day" ... "World Hypnotism Day" ... "Elizabeth Seton Feast Day (Roman Catholic)" ... "Anniversary - Pop Music Chart" ... "Admission Day (Utah)" ... "Independence Day (Myanmar)".
Quotes of the Day:
"When you relinquish the desire to control your future, you can have more happiness."
-- Nicole Kidman
"Never regret something that once made you smile."

In 1935, Bob Hope made his network radio debut in the cast of "The Intimate Revue."
In 1936, Billboard magazine published the first pop music chart.
In 1954, a struggling young musician who worked in a machine shop paid $4 to record two songs for his mother. His name: Elvis Presley.

Good Morning! Monday January 3, 2011
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. Yesterday's clouds and storms have blown on past, and it's going to be a clear, bright, "normal" (mid 40s) winter day. The only trace of snow left are where it had been plowed into huge piles, and that will probably be gone today too. The predictions are for more cold coming, but who knows if we'll get more snow? (I'm thinking we probably will!)
Yesterday: It turned out to be a nice day, and the weather held off for the most part. I got a few things done in the morning - not as much as I probably should have; but then, do I ever? LOL! A friend and I did a little bit of shopping, but I got home fairly early (looked like a storm coming, but it passed on by). I even cooked dinner ... seems like forever since I've done that. Hmmm.
Today: DH has a doctor appointment, and since I'm off work today, and he's still "unsure" about driving, I'll be spending the day sitting around the clinic waiting room. I guess today I'll get a chance to catch up some reading! LOL!
Today: "Fruitcake Toss Day" ... "National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day" ... "Congress Assembles Day" ... "Drinking Straw Day" ... "Earth at Perihelion" ... "Memento Mori" ... "National Thank God Its Monday! Day" ... "Admission Day (Alaska)" ... "Passport Presentation (Russia)" ... "St. Genevieve Feast Day (France)".
Quotes of the Day:
"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read."
-- Groucho Marx
"We are always the same age inside."
-- Gertrude Stein
"The best of us must sometimes eat our words."
-- J. K. Rowling
Today in history:
In 1938, the March of Dimes was established by Franklin D. Roosevelt and the first campaign to fight polio was organized
In 1959, Alaska became the 49th state of the union.
In 2004, a NASA robotic explorer called Spirit touched down on Mars, sending a signal to California that it survived the descent through the Martian atmosphere.
Today's birthdays include
- Feminist and abolitionist Lucretia Mott in 1793
- British Prime Minister Clement Attlee in 1883

Good Morning! Sunday January 2, 2011
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. It's gray, but warm; and all but tiny hidden spots of snow are gone now. It was pretty at first, but less so as it started melting (and getting dirty). Today will be lower 60s, and maybe rainy; and it will probably get cooler (more "seasonable") later in the afternoon.
Yesterday: I got most of the things on my list done ... or at least worked on ... but mostly it was a lazy day. I watched the parade, and the dream house (not as crazy about this year's house - I just don't thnk my family or friends would appreciate being bunked together! LOL!). I sewed some, organized some, cooked some (not the baking - discovered I was missing a key ingredient - will take care of that today, and maybe bake tonight).
Today: I slept late, and seem to have a hard time getting going. I plan to go shopping later this afternoon; I guess I'm just not very motivated to get out into the dampness. Once I get up and get moving (away from the computer! LOL!) I'll be better. :)
Today: "Happy Mew Year for Cats Day" ... "National Motivation and Inspiration Day" ... "Ratification Day (Georgia)" ... "Ancestors' Day (Haiti)" ... "Kakizome (Japan".
Quotes of the Day:
"The tooth fairy teaches children that they can sell body parts for money."
-- David Richerby
"A man is not idle because he is absorbed in thought. There is a visible labor and there is an invisible labor."
-- Victor Hugo
"When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable."
-- Clifton Fadiman
Today in history:
In 1788, Georgia ratified the Constitution, the fourth of the original 13 colonies to do so, and was admitted to the union.
In 1818, the British Institution of Civil Engineers was formed.
In 1959, the Soviet Union launched Lunik-1, the first unmanned spacecraft to travel to the moon.
Today's birthdays include
- Virginia patriot Nathaniel Bacon in 1647
- British Gen. James Wolfe, hero of the battle of Quebec, in 1727
- Fan dancer Sally Rand in 1904

Good Mornnig! Saturday January 1, 2011
Good morning! Welcome to 2011! It's a wonderful morning. God has given us a great gift - this beautiful new day! :) Today will be in lower 60s; maybe even higher ... starting out the year with another "abnormal" high. It'll be cloudy, maybe even some "drizzle" and rain by tonight ... and this will probably melt away most of the snow still on the ground. I have some shady areas that have quite a lot, but I think most of that will be soon gone too.
Yesterday: It turned out to be a really good day. I got several chores done around the house in the morning, and then went out in the afternoon and ran some errands. I got everything on my list done, and even found time to stop in my favorite "flea market/antique" shop ... where of course I found some bargains! :) Then last night DH, my friend, and I drove to a nearby town to watch the "Pickle Drop" ... silly, of course, but fun! We met DS & his family there, and had a brief visit. We headed home, stopped for a barbeque sandwich on the way, and were home in plenty of time to watch the New Year's Eve festivities in Raleigh (and New York) on TV.
Today: I have a lot of things I planned for today, but I'm not going to get all frantic rushing around. I've got laundry going and peas soaking (must have black-eyed peas and rice --"hoppin' john"-- family tradition!). The house is neat and (reasonably) clean for now, and today I will do some sewing, some baking, and get my new calendar set up ... and watch the Rose Parade! And I will probably check out the new HGTV shows too. :)
Today: "New Years Day" ... "Circumcision of Christ (Christian)" ... "New Year's Dishonor List" ... "St. Basil's Day (E. Orthodox)" ... "Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God (Roman Catholic)" ... "Z Day" ... "Anniversary - Birth of First Baby Boomer" ... "Mummers Parade (Pa, US)" ... :Tournament of Roses Parade (Ca, US)" ... "Rose Bowl Game (Pasadena, Ca)" ... "Liberation Day (Cuba)" ... "Independence Day (Haiti)" ... "New Year (1st-3rd -Japan)" ... "Independence Day (Sudan)".
