We left home about 6:00 Friday evening, after I got home from work and loaded the car. With one quick stop for gas and a fast-food meal, we were at Brent's house by 8:45. We spent the evening just sitting around relaxing and watching "Beverly Hills Chihauhau". (kind of silly, but cute).
Saturday morning we woke up to .... pouring rain! I mean, really pouring! We took our time, very slow and lazy morning. Cindy went and got some Dunkin Donuts (I had my first DD chocolate chip muffin -- to die for!!!!). Around noon or so we all left ... 2 car caravan ... still raining. As we headed into Havelock, the rain gradually ended, and there was even some partial clearing. We went to a pizza place (New York Pizza I think ... fabulous huge pizzas!).
After eating, we headed out to Cherry Point. It was still only partly cloudy, though there were very black clouds on the horizon. We got parked, and almost immediately a nice young man in a "golf cart" showed up. He not only gave Jimmy and I a ride, but also went back and picked up Brent & Cindy and the kids! He dropped us off within view of the air field. Because we had left home in rain, we were sort of unprepared for the sun. Cindy went to get a cap (she gets headaches). Jimmy and I started meandering towards the show area ... and that same nice young man showed up, and took us closer.
We had apparently missed at least half the show since we didn't show up until early afternoon, but we still enjoyed what we saw. There were a few "tricks"; and a lone airplane spouting red smoke made loop-de-loops. We kept expecting him to write "Dorothy Go Home"! LOL!
The Blue Angels weren't there this year. Instead they had Canadian "Snow Birds". They didn't do as many "tricks", but to me their very tight precision formation was amazing.
The heavy clouds kept moving closer; and at one point it started sprinkling - and even more people started leaving. After the show, Jimmy and I waited for a ride ... and that same nice young man picked us up yet again, and drove us all the way to the car (even though we forgot where it was and he took us to 2 different parking lots! LOL!). It was surprisingly easy to get off base, using the "back door". We went straight to Wal-Mart and met up with Brent & Cindy and the kids there. I had promised to get them a couple of the porch chairs they wanted as a house-warming gift, and the Wally in Havelock was the only place that had them.
We went back to their house, and I made sausage dip (special request from Alex). "dinner" was sausage dip and bbq cocktail weiners. Yum! LOL! I have no idea what was on TV ... I fell asleep.
This morning ... the day it was predicted to be cold and raining - we woke up to sunshine! I went with Brent & family to their new church, and Jimmy drove down to Morehead City to drain his boat. I totally enjoyed their church! I wish I didn't live too far away to go there.
When we got out, it was just starting to rain. And it never stopped! Poured rain the rest of the day. We left about 4:00, just braved the rain and went on home. It had eased up by the time we got home, but never completely stopped. My yard is very happy!
So, now, it is late. All is unpacked, laundry done (ok, not put up - but clean). Tomorrow is back to "same ol same ol".
