Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. I'm up too early ... have plans for the day, although right now I don't even know for sure how the day will unfold. It doesn't matter, we'll get done what we need to. Eventually! LOL! I'm really not sure what the forecast is for today ... it seems to change hourly. It's a bit damp and gray now; I think it might be heading for partly cloudy and warm. They're saying rain tonight, but it should hold off until after all the little "goblins" are safely home.
Last night I did a little work on a report I brought home (even though I'm on vacation now, the report needs to be done by Monday!); and worked on clearing a few "hot spots". This morning I've got laundry started, working on the report some, and getting a list for today organized. Later we'll be running some errands - groceries, medicines, craft supplies. I hope to get all the "running around" done so tomorrow I can stay home (probably rainy) and get busy.

Good Morning! Thursday October 29, 2009
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. It appears the clouds have moved on by (leaving very little of the predicted rain), and today will be mild (around 70), mostly sunny, and breezy. This is true lovely fall weather.
Yesterday I had a nice experience. I went, with a friend, to a "Pink Tea". This is an event my employer put on in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. The old office was fixed up very nicely, wonderful refreshments (including, of course, choices of hot or iced tea), they even had some very classy door prizes. A nurse from the local hospital gave a talk about breast cancer: awareness, diagnosing, and also clarified a lot of the myths. It was a well spent lunch hour.
Last night the only thing I accomplished was to sort through my stash of Christmas fabrics to find what I need for a swap project. I will need to work on that this weekend, as well as get started on decorating. Tonight I hope to get the first stage - cutting - done, as well as some cutting done for my current projects (that I'm way behind on!!).
Today is "Anniversary - Internet" ... "Anniversary - Stock Market Crash (1929)" ... "Republic Day (Turkey)".
Quotes of the Day:
"Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much."
-- Oscar Wilde
"I cannot pretend to feel impartial about colours. I rejoice with the brilliant ones and am genuinely sorry for the poor browns."
-- Sir Winston Churchill
Today in history:
In 1886, the ticker-tape parade first took place in New York City.
In 1923, the musical "Runnin' Wild," which introduced the Charleston, opened on Broadway.
In 1969, the first connection on what would become the Internet was made when bits of data flowed between computers at UCLA and the Stanford Research Institute. This was the beginning of ARPANET, the forerunner to the Internet developed by the Department of Defense.
In 1998, Sen. John Glenn, D-Ohio, who in 1962 became the first U.S. astronaut to orbit the Earth, returned to space aboard the shuttle Discovery. At 77, he was the oldest person to travel in space.

Good Morning! Tuesday October 26, 2009
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. It's still gray out ... morning is coming later and later; but I think it'll be a mostly cloudy day anyway. We'll be in the mid 60s again, with rain and drizzle. They're saying this is one of the driest years ever ... I'm amazed at that. So, bring on the rain! :)
I didn't get a lot done last night, but I did make an effort to be just a bit more productive. I worked some more on a small project ... some Christmas sewing I need to do and had forgotten about! Oops. LOL! I'm really hoping to dredge up a bit more energy, and finish that project and do a few more, get laundry caught up (again), get at least one more batch of cookie dough in the freezer, and start taking some things upstairs that are in the way. I'd like to have all of that done by the weekend, so I start decorating with a "clean slate". Sort of. :) All I need is to find that extra energy!

Good Morning! Monday October 26, 2009
Good morning! It's a lovely fall morning. The temps have dropped quite a bit since the weekend, and it will only be in the mid 60s today. That's still not so bad. It's a mostly grayish morning, and might be showery later; but they're still saying we need the rain, so it's all goodl. :) I still have flowers blooming (that don't know it isn't summer any more! LOL!) ... my little pond garden is a riot of color right now! Most of my mums are covered with blooms, plus there's marigolds and camelias and some other things I don't even know names of.
Yesterday was mostly lazy, recovering from Saturday! LOL! I did get laundry caught up; and I did a few very small organizing projects. I even got a few steps done on a small sewing project. Hopefully the rest of this week I can get sewing done, and a few small things "out of the way". Next week is decorating week!! :)

My Day at the Fair
This week was originally scheduled as a "catch up" week. But, since I managed to stay fairly well on schedule, I gave myself (another) playday. My friend and I went to the NC State Fair. I don't think I've been to the Fair for close to 30 years! My family always went when we were kids ... a few rides, a few games, some cotton candy. As a "grown-up" (yes, by some people that's questionable ... but sometimes I have fun! LOL!) I'm not at all interested in the rides or games. Jimmy isn't especially interested in the exhibits (a few, but not all); and in any case, he couldn't last more than an hour, tops, and would have to sit down to wait. And my friend's dad and son are both only interested in the rides, and have no patience for her to go through exhibits. So, we went. We had no one wanting to drag us off this way or that; no one bored with what we wanted to see. We had SO MUCH FUN!! I picked her up close to 10 am, and we drove to Raleigh (about 45 minutes), and parked the car. We rode a bus to the fairgrounds, and were there by 11:30. We went through every exhibit building ... arts and crafts of every imaginable kind; we saw all the animals (sadly, not allowed to pet any of them); we saw fabulous gardens (and got caught in the rain!). We ate deep fried Reese Cups (like a Reese Cup tucked inside a doughnut ... wonderful!); and chocolate covered bacon ("Pig Lickers" ... much much better than it sounds); homemade ice cream. We ate huge sloppy sandwiches (steak and cheese for me, polish sausage for her) for dinner, and brought home candy apples, caramel apples, and fudge! (oh, and some Moravian stars that can hang or be used as candle holders). I got an autograph from one of the local weathermen (my 2nd favorite, Mike, after Greg who wasn't there). We roamed back and forth several times ... ducking inside buildings during showers, and strolling around in between (or when it was only a light sprinkle). By shortly after 8:00 we had seen everything there was to see, and decided we were too tired to wait another hour for fireworks. We took the bus back to the car, and headed home. On the way home we had the only "negative" incident of the whole day (well, aside from the batteries in my camera dieing!). The car in front of us braked suddenly, then pulled over. I was going very slow, trying to figure out why it stopped; meantime a car came from the other direction. In it's headlights, Andrea spotted something in the road. I thought it was a deer - fortunately, going slow enough to pull off behind the first car. It was NOT a deer!! She had hit a man who had apparently darted out in front of her! The poor lady was histerical!! I had my cell in my hand and had already dialed 911 when I realized that a man (don't even know where he came from) was beside the road and already talking to Rescue. Several people stopped, and at one point they were giving him CPR. After a few minutes, I realized that the situation was under control, Rescue was on the way, and I was probably in the way. With some help from other people around, I managed to back up enough to get back on the road and on my way. We passed the First Responders and Police on their way to the scene. I was a bit shaken, but the rest of the way home was thankfully uneventful!

Good Morning! Sunday, October 25, 2009
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. The last forecast I saw was for clear, warm and sunny. It hasn't got there yet, but I'm sure it will. It's around 60 now, mid-morning, so it will probably be a nice day. Yesterday was, just as predicted, a fairly rainy afternoon. It drizzled off and on, with one mid afternoon spell of a good downpour and even a bit of thunder. And yes, we got wet! LOL! We did have to find cover during the harder raining; but in the end, we pretty much saw everything we wanted to see (arts and crafts of every sort, "Village of Yesteryear", animals, gardens). We tasted a few "exotic" treats, and we got a "celebrity" autograph (local weatherman, Mike Maze). We gave brief thought to staying late enough for fireworks; but when we realized we'd done everything, were totally exhausted, and it was still an hour until the fireworks .... we passed! LOL!
This morning I am sore from all that walking, but pushing myself to "work it out"! LOL!
I do have a lot to get done: CHRISTMAS IS TWO MONTHS FROM TODAY!! :)

Good Morning! Saturday October 24, 2009
Good morning! It's a lovely morning (so far) - overcast, but "bright" - and even as I write this, the sun is peeking out, and most of the back yard is glowing! It's going to be another warm day, with possibility of showers and even storms by afternoon. I'm taking my chances anyway! LOL! I haven't been to the State Fair in way more years than I can remember; at least since my son (in his late 30s) was a small child. The rides and sideshows and such don't interest me, but I've been wanting to go see the exhibits. Today's my chance! YAY! I'm picking up my friend and we're going to Raleigh, park the car, and ride the bus. No way would I drive in that traffic. I have no idea how long we'll stay, or how much junk food we'll eat (fried everything!!). I'm sure I'll be exhausted and miserable tomorrow ... but it'll be fun! LOL!

Good Morning! Friday October 23, 2009
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. The sky is pale gold now, though the forecast is for cloudy. There's a little bit of mist floating just above the ground .. sort of spooky. Today will be upper 70s and breezy; rain is a maybe/maybe not thing. I guess that makes it a bit hard on people going to the State Fair. In my little cubby - I don't care! LOL!
I got nothing done at home last night, not even email (if I owe anyone replies, I'll try to get to them tonight!). As soon as I got home, we went to Jimmy's sister's house for a quick visit. My BIL gave us a lot of frozen fish he had caught (and cleaned!). He catches them, he doesn't eat them. Go figure! LOL! Then we went out to a favorite local restaurant to "celebrate" Jimmy's birthday. Then we went to my sister's house to get the BIG tree she gave me. Wow. It really IS big! :) But, with a LOT of help from (another) BIL, it got put in the car. We traded some of the fish for some venison. Oh boy are we set now! :)
We got home safely with the tree, and got it out of the car ... in time to go to bed!!! So, tonight I play catch up with everything.
Today is "National Mole Day" ... "Swallows Leave San Juan Capistrano" ... "TV Talk Show Host Day" ... "Peace Treaty Day (Cambodia)".

I will tell more about the trip on my blog later - for now, just trying to get my bearings again. :)
Tonight I'll have to unpack (got home too late last night), and do laundry; but soon I hope to be back to sewing. I have a lot of unfinished projects, and have acquired some new ones as well. For "someday"! LOL!

Good Morning! Tuesday October 13, 2009
Good morning! It's a wonderful fall morning. It's very foggy out right now, but the forecast is for only partly cloudy today. It will be another warm day, upper 70s! What see-saw weather! LOL! But, this is normal for an NC fall. We got a bit of rain yesterday, though we could sure use more. Still, my little sheltered garden is doing just fine. I have summer flowers that don't know they aren't supposed to be still blooming, right across the fish pond from astonishing mums and marigolds. It's all still a happy place.
I did get a bit of sewing done last night. Not as much as I hoped, but I got one section of a project finished. Tonight I have to do laundry, and get mostly finished packing. Maybe I'll have time for sewing, maybe not. :)

Good Morning! Monday October 12, 2009
Good morning! It's a wonderful Monday morning. It's cloudy, will be cool (mid 60s) and maybe rainy. We need rain, so this is not a bad thing. :)
Yesterday was, as I thought it would be, very busy. My house is clean (all except finishing vacuuming - because DH decided to take a nap! LOL!); I got some cookies made, and a little bit of craft stuff done. I had a nice but all too short visit from friends, and also a surprise visit from a step-son (well, OK, he really came to see DH ... but he did a big favor for me while here!).
Hopefully sometime today DH will get the car back. Tonight I plan to get sewing done, that I didn't get to all weekend.
Today is "Clergy Appreciation Day" ... "International Moment of Frustration Scream Day" ... "Dнa de la Raza" (Celebrate in Mexico, Farmer's Day).

Good Morning! Sunday October 11, 2009
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. The forecast today is for much cooler - around 70, and cloudy. This morning started out rainy, so I don't know if it will clear or not. But, we can sure use rain, so it's all good. :)
Yesterday certainly turned into a major adventure. After early morning yard-sale-ing with friends, which was a load of fun, I picked up another friend. We went to a quilt show: a display of local quilts, some very old, all beautiful. Then we went to eat, and then made "just one more" stop. When we were ready to leave - the car wasn't! LOL!! We managed to contact my friend's cousin, who came and rescued us, and all will be well.
So, today at least, I won't be going anywhere. :) That's fine, I have a lot to catch up on: some cleaning, some crafts, some sewing, some baking. I *might* even have some company. It will be a very busy day.
Today is "General Pulaski Memorial Day" ... "National Coming Out Day" ... "Anniversary - Saturday Night Live" ... "Grandmother's Day (Fl)" ... "White Sunday (Samoa and American Samoa)".

Good Morning! Friday October 9, 2009
Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. The days are getting noticably shorter now, and the sun isn't over the trees yet; but the sky is a glorious gold. Today will be summery, with highs near 90, partly cloudy, windy, and humid. Very strange ups and downs, and yet, not so unusual for an NC fall.
I got laundry done last night, and some hand sewing. That takes longer, but I got a small project completely pinned and at least began the sewing. I may have to change my mind and machine sew it! LOL! I also worked on a small craft project. I'm at a stopping point on that until I remember to go get some pliers to open the stuck glue. :)
Tonight I plan (and you know how my "planning" goes! LOL!) to clean up some "hot spots", and work on the big project. Or not. :)

Good Morning! Thursday October 8, 2009
Good morning! It is a beautiful morning. It's bright and clear, and will be just a near-perfect day: sunny, mid 70s, low humidity, slight breeze. I'll have to think up an excuse to go out at lunch time! LOL!
Last night I made some progress on a small craft project; and a lot of progress on one of 15 parts of a big project. That doesn't sound like much, but the big project is a major accomplishment. I'm very pleased with how it looks so far ... just have to actually finish it! Tonight I have to do laundry, and a few cleaning chores; but I'm hoping to find sewing time too.
Today is "Alvin C. York Day" ... "National Depression Screening Day" ... "Cosmopolite's Day" ... "International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction" ... "International Top Spinning Day" ... "National Bring Your Teddy Bear to Work and School Day" ... "Native American's Day".

Good Morning! Tuesday October 6, 2009
Good morning! It's a wonderful fall morning. It's still drizzly out, after a mostly all day rain yesterday. They say it's going to stay mostly cloudy, though not so much rain, and upper 60s today. That's a perfectly nice fall day; though I might be glad --for once-- that I don't have a window at work! LOL!
I always over estimate what I can get done at home after work; but I did get 2 loads of laundry done. I also straightened up my work area, so I could see just what I do have to get done. Also, with the cooler days ahead, I spent a bit of extra time when putting up laundry to pull out some warmer fall shirts for work. It's time to retire summer clothes. Since I don't have 4 separate wardrobes (I wish! LOL!!), I have to make the transitions gradually.
Hopefully tonight I'll get sewing done. I'm really getting behind, and running out of time on some projects.
There are only 80 days until Christmas!!
Today is "Jackie Mayer Rehab Day" ... "Mad Hatter Day" ... "Physician Assistant Day" ... "World Habitat Day" ... "National German-American Day" ... "Armed Forces Day (Egypt)" ... "Ivy Day (Ireland)".

In 1927, the movies began learning to talk. "The Jazz Singer" starring Al Jolson, Hollywood's legendary "first talkie," premiered in New York, ushering in the era of sound to great moviegoer enthusiasm and heralded the end of the silents.
In 2001, Cal Ripkin Jr. retired after a spectacular baseball career with the Baltimore Orioles that included playing in a record 2,632 consecutive games.

Good Morning! Monday October 5, 2009
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. I woke up to rain! We need rain; and what is more perfect, after a gloriously beautiful weekend, than a rainy Monday morning! :) We did not put up "all" the decorations yesterday. In the end, I couldn't bring myself to put them all out quite this early. But, we got some "infrastructure" done. That was the hard part (and wouldn't have gotten done without my friend and my neighbor figuring it out!). The plans are all in place, and some other small things in place. Now I just have to find where I put the lights last year! LOL!
Tonight I hope to get back on the neglected sewing. I have a lot of things coming up over the next few months, and I really have to be more organized with the time I have.
It's only 81 days until Christmas!
Today is "Child Health Day" ... "Improve Your Home Office Day" ... "UN World Habitat Day" ... "UN World Teacher's Day" ... "Republic Day (Portugal)".

Good Morning! Sunday October 4, 2009
Good morning! It's a beautiful morning! Yesterday turned out to be much warmer than I expected, but was a lovely day just the same. I think today is supposed to be a bit cooler (upper 70s), though I missed the revised weather forecast last night. It should be a really lovely day for being outside, which is what I plan to do!
We didn't get the outside started yesterday, but sure had a lot of fun polishing up ideas for it (and going on a "window-shopping" spree!!! Some stores have a lot of Christmas stuff out - yay!! LOL!) I did, however, get a lot of the cleaning things done I needed to. Today we will tackle some of the outdoor things; but since the grass has not obliged us by stopping growing, we'll wait a few more weeks for some of the things that will go in the yard. :)
I got so excited seeing so many ideas yesterday ... and there are only 82 days left until Christmas!!
Today is "Intergeneration Day" ... "Ten-Four Day" ... "World Communion Sunday" ... "Anniversary - Sputnik" ... "Independence Day (Lesotho)".
Quotes of the Day:
"If you wish to know what a man is, place him in authority."
-- Yugoslav Proverb

Good Morning! Saturday October 3, 2009
Good morning! It is a gorgeous morning! The early morning clouds have all moved on, and it's bright and clear. It should only go to low 80s today, so will be great for getting outdoor things done.
Last night I finally got back into my projects. I tied and clipped threads (unfortunately, found some places to be hand stitched - but that won't take long); wound bobbins; and did a bit of sewing on several projects.
This morning I've already gotten a load of laundry done, and the kitchen floor swept and mopped!! YAY!! Of course, I still have to go mop it again ... one of those strange floors that never really looks clean. Mopping it shiny helps! LOL! Today is the day we planned to start putting up outside decorations (after making the mistake of waiting too late last year, and it got too cold). I think there might be some "extra" excursions in the afternoon before the decorating starts! :)
Today is "World Card Making Day" ... "Anniversary - German Reunification" ... "Chusok (Korea)" ... "National Foundation Day (Korea)".
Quotes of the Day:
"By common consent gray hairs are a crown of glory."
--George Bancroft
" A sense of duty is useful in work, but offensive in personal relations. People wish to be liked, not be endured with patient resignation.
