Good Morning! Sunday November 22, 2009

Good morning! It's a beautiful morning! It's bright and clear now, although they say a front will be moving through later, leading to possible rain by tonight. It's a bit cooler now; but it *should* be in late November! LOL!
We got all of the important things done yesterday ... and I could NOT have finished without my young friend who helps me! There's only one tree still to go up, but it can't go up until everything has gone up and down the stairs. All the trees up have lights and at least some ornaments. The house is reasonably clean (well, I did vacuum!! LOL!!) My gathering of friends for dinner and lights went well, and I'm so glad they all came. My friend's 2 year old grandson was so much fun (I have lots of stuffed toys that make noise!!)
Today will be much more relaxing. I have a few things I must do, but only a bare minimum. I will have more company, but they're mostly coming to see DH for some outdoor activity (although I may watch, just for fun).
There are 32 days left until Christmas!

Today is "Saint Cecilia Feast Day" ... "Anniversary - Assassination of John F. Kennedy" ... "Independence Day (Lebanon)" ... "Totensonntag (Germany)".

Quotes of the Day:
"Never have children, only grandchildren."
-- Gore Vidal

"After I'm dead I'd rather have people ask why I have no monument than why I have one."
-- Cato the Elder

Today in history:
In 1935, a Pan American Martin 130 "flying boat" called the China Clipper began regular trans-Pacific mail service. The flight from San Francisco to Manila, Philippines, took 59 hours and 48 minutes.

In 1977, the Anglo-French supersonic Concorde jetliner began scheduled flights to New York from London and Paris.

In 1997, New Zealanders Robert Hamill and Phil Stubbs arrived in Barbados from the Canary Islands in their boat, Kiwi Challenger, after 41 days, one hour and 55 minutes -- a record for rowing across the Atlantic.

In 2005, Angela Merkel was sworn in as Germany's chancellor. She was the first woman and first person from East Germany to lead the country.
