Good Morning! Tuesday November 3, 2009

Good morning! It's a beautiful morning! The sun is shining, and it will be warmer today. I think we may re-arrange the plans, and try for some outside stuff this afternoon ... seems a warm sunny day is rare right now! I'll happily change the sequence of what needs to be done to take advantage of it.
Yesterday we got a lot done. Curtains are up, plants are in, table covers are on, and the first layer of decorating has begun. And I was SOOOO tired last night! LOL! But, a good night's sleep (and getting to sleep late!), and I'm ready to start again.

Today is "Clichй' Day" ... "General Election Day (US)" ... "Sandwich Day" ... "Culture Day (Japan)" ... "National Day (Dominica)" ... "Independence Day (Micronesia)" ... "Independence Day (Panama)".

Quotes of the Day:
"Now and then an innocent man is sent to the legislature."
-- Kin Hubbard

"Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body."
-- Seneca

Today in history:
In 1783, with American independence established, Congress ordered the Continental Army demobilized.

In 1803, with the support of the U.S. government, Panama issued a declaration of independence from Colombia.

In 1928, Mickey Mouse appeared for the first time, with Walt Disney doing the voice of his soon-to-be-famous creation, in "Steamboat Willie," the first fully synchronized sound cartoon produced.

In 1948, the Chicago Daily Tribune printed the famously premature (and incorrect) headline, "Dewey defeats Truman."

In 1957, the Soviet Union launched the first animal into space -- a dog named Laika -- aboard the Sputnik 2 spacecraft.

Today's birthdays include
- Early Texas leader Stephen Austin, for whom the state capital is named, in 1793
- Poet William Cullen Bryant in 1794
- Chicago Bears legend Bronislau Bronko Nagurski in 1908
- Actor Charles Bronson in 1922
- Conductor/composer John Barry in 1933
- Entertainer Ken Berry in 1933
- Former Massachusetts governor and 1986 Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis in 1933
- Comedian Roseanne Barr in 1952
- Comedian Dennis Miller in 1953
- Actress Kate Capshaw in 1953
- Actress Kathy Kinney (The Drew Carey Show) in 1954

Everyone have a Great Tuesday!
