Good Morning! Wednesday February 24, 2010

Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. It's chilly and wet, but the frozen stuff - if there is any - will be north of me. Everyone knows I like snow ... but ... now I'm ready for spring! LOL! We do have a few cooler (low 40s) days coming, but after a cloudy day or two, we'll at least see more sunshine.
Last night I watched the "final" 12 girls sing on AI. Jimmy even watched with me ... and I have to say, I wasn't overly impressed. I stayed up late to see some of the ladies figure skating finals ... much nicer to watch! Since there's no figure skating tonight, I will probably watch to see if the guys are any better than the girls. I probably will NOT watch the results show! :)

Today is "Gregorian Calendar Day" ... "Inconvenience Yourself Day" ... "Flag Day (Mexico)" ... "Independence Day (Estonia)".

Quotes of the Day:
"For all their strength, men were sometimes like little children."
-- Lawana Blackwell

"I love quotations because it is a joy to find thoughts one might have, beautifully expressed with much authority by someone recognized wiser than oneself."
-- Marlene Dietrich

Today in history:
In 1839, William Otis received a patent for his steam shovel.

In 1868, the first Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans to include floats marched.

In 1970, National Public Radio was founded.

In 1992, the U.S. Postal Service unveiled two designs for a commemorative stamp honoring Elvis Presley -- one showing him as a young rock-and-roll singer, the other at the height of his success in Las Vegas.

In 1993, rock veteran Eric Clapton took home seven Grammy Awards for his emotion-packed "Tears In Heaven" and bluesy "Layla."

In 2002, the Winter Olympics concluded at Salt Lake City with the United States winning 34 medals, 10 of them gold, its most medals in Winter Games history and one fewer than medals champ Germany.
