Good Morning! Friday January 7, 2010

Good morning! It's a wonderful morning. It's still overcast, but the forecast calls for some of it to blow away. It's very cold and windy ... and DRY! No, we did NOT get the promised snow. At least, not around my house. (disappointment!). Well, at least the roads are safe. Hopefully we only have a few more days of the super cold (for here), and it will start getting closer to "normal".
I did finally get most of the laundry put up last night. Nothing like the promise of someone stopping by for impetus! LOL! A friend came by to see all the trees (and other stuff), so that was a nice little visit. After that, though ... Thursday has some of my favorite shows. :)
Tonight I *might* have someone else come by. It will be the last chance, as this weekend, sadly, I will start taking down Christmas decorations (and replacing with winter).

Today is "National Joygerm Day" ... "Saint Gudula Feast Day (Christian)" ... "Show & Tell Day at Work" ... "Midwife's Day/Women's Day (Greece)".

Quotes of the Day:
"Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes."
-- Oscar Wilde

"No one has a finer command of language than the person who keeps his mouth shut."
-- Sam Rayburn

Today in history:
In 1958, Bobby Fischer won the United States Chess Championship at age 14.

In 1993, thousands gathered at Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tenn., to purchase the first issue of a stamp honoring the "King of Rock 'n' Roll" on what would have been his 58th birthday.

Today's birthdays include:
- Financier Nicholas Biddle in 1786
- Educator and hymn writer Lowell Mason ("Nearer My God To Thee") in 1792
- James Longstreet, Confederate general in the Civil War, in 1821
- Publisher Frank Doubleday in 1862
- Reading teacher Evelyn Wood in 1909
- Actor Jose Ferrer in 1912
- Comic actor Larry Storch in 1923
- Comedian Soupy Sales in 1926
- Newsman Charles Osgood in 1933
- Rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley in 1935
- Singer Shirley Bassey in 1937
- Bob Eubanks in 1938
- Actress Yvette Mimieux in 1942
- Physicist and author Stephen Hawking in 1942
- Singer David Bowie in 1947

Everyone have a Great Friday!
