Good Morning! Sunday January 10, 2010

Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. The sun is out, it's clear and bright ... and still very COLD. Cold for NC that is ... but it looks like this spell will be easing for all of us soon. (they're even saying we could get to above normal by next weekend!). Despite the cold, yesterday was a fairly productive day. I did have a lot of help! :) We got the upstairs room over half cleaned and organized - it won't take me long this afternoon to finish that. I'll bring empty boxes down, and maybe even get a tree or two put up. Yesterday we also got a "leaky" window (cold air blowing in around the a/c) sealed up. Another great use for bubble wrap! LOL! And, we got trash and plastics taken to the dump.
Today I will finish laundry, do some cleaning, work on the upstairs project, clear off the dining room table (well, that's a "maybe" project), and try to finish updating my 2010 calendar.

Today is "National Cut Your Energy Costs Day" ... "Anniversary - Women's Suffrage Amendment".

Quotes of the Day:
"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them."
-- Henry David Thoreau

"No animal should ever jump up on the dining-room furniture unless absolutely certain that he can hold his own in the conversation."
-- Fran Lebowitz

Today in history:
In 1776, "Common Sense" by political philosopher Thomas Paine was published. The pamphlet advocated independence from England.

In 1878, a constitutional amendment that would give women the right to vote was introduced into the U.S. Senate. It wasn't until 42 years later that the amendment was signed into law.

In 1901, oil was discovered at the Spindletop claim near Beaumont, Texas, launching the Southwest oil boom.

In 1920, the League of Nations came into being as the Treaty of Versailles went into effect.

In 1946, the first meeting of the U.N. General Assembly convened in London.

Today's birthdays include:
