Good Morning! Sunday July 17, 2011

Good morning! It's a beautiful morning! It is again, so comfortably cool out, with just a touch of breeze. Today should be mostly clear and bright, a little warmer (upper 80s); but also more humid, though no mention of rain again.
Yesterday: I had a busy day, though a lot of it was running around taking care of errands. I made it to the local farmer's market ... they had fresh corn this week. Yay! I did a few other errands, then came home and actually made a lot of progress on my "project room". When I went back again to pick up DH from dialysis, I went and picked up a refill. Last night I got some laundry finished, and even a tiny bit of decluttering.
Today: I got a lot of cleaning done early, and hope to finish the room this afternoon so I can start on another. Gardening will get done today, since the excessive heat is coming back quickly. I keep up with the watering every day, but when it's hotter I move the sprinkler more often to make sure everything gets a good soaking as early as possible. :)

Today is "National Ice Cream Day" ... "Wrong Way Corrigan Day" ... "Anniversary - Disneyland Opening" ... "Constitution Day (South Korea)".

Quotes of the Day:
"Economics is extremely useful as a form of employment for economists."
-- John Kenneth Galbraith

"When you are kind to someone in trouble, you hope they'll remember and be kind to someone else. And it'll become like a wildfire."
-- Whoopi Goldberg

"Even if you do learn to speak correct English, whom are you going to speak it to?"
-- Clarence Darrow

Today in history:
In 1938, Douglas Corrigan took off from Floyd Bennett Field in New York for a return flight to California but lost his bearings in the clouds, he said, and flew instead to Ireland. He became an instant celebrity and was forever after known as "Wrong Way" Corrigan.

In 1955, Arco, Idaho, a town of 1,300 people, became the first community in the world to receive all its light and power from atomic energy.

In 1955, Disneyland opened in Anaheim, Calif.

In 1975, three U.S. and two Soviet spacemen linked their orbiting Apollo and Soyuz spacecraft for historic handshakes 140 miles above Earth.

In 2008, the U.S. Library of Congress named Kay Ryan as the nation's poet laureate. Ryan, succeeding Charles Simic, is noted for philosophical yet humorous poems.
