Good Morning! Tuesday July 18, 2011

Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. Even though the intense heat is coming back, so far it's very nice out. I've been outside several times moving the sprinkler, and it's sunny but not hot yet, and just a touch breezy. The forecast is for upper 90s today (where I live, it could even go as high as 100), and with higher humidity so there's a chance of afternoon storms.
Yesterday: It was actually quite nice to not have to leave the house for anything. :) I spent too much time just "playing" on the computer. But, I also got the one big project I planned for done. I got "ordinary" stuff caught up too, so it was a pretty good day.
Today: It's dialysis and work, plus 2 errands to run after work. I'm hoping for enough of a spurt of energy to start the next phase of the current "room project". I'll just have to do the best I can. :)

Today is "Feast of Tammuz (Jewish)" ... "National Liberation Day (Nicaragua)" ... "National Get Out of the Doghouse Day" ... "National Hug Your Kids Day".

Quotes of the Day:
"Progress is the product of human agency. Things get better because we make them better. Things go wrong when we get too comfortable, when we fail to take risks or seize opportunities."
-- Susan Rice

"After the last of 16 mounting screws has been removed from an access cover, it will be discovered that the wrong access cover has been removed."
-- De La Lastra's Law

Today in history:

In 1911, Pennsylvania became the first U.S. state to pass laws censoring movies.

In 1946, Marilyn Monroe was given her first screen test at Twentieth Century-Fox Studios. Even without sound, the test was enough to earn Monroe her first contract.

In 1969, John Fairfax of Britain arrived at Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to become the first person to row across the Atlantic alone.

In 1984, U.S. Rep. Geraldine Ferraro, D-N.Y., was chosen as Walter Mondale's vice presidential running mate at the Democratic National Convention. She was the first woman on a major ticket.

In 1996, the Summer Olympics opened in Atlanta with a record 197 nations taking part.
