Good Morning! Monday December 14, 2009

Good morning! It's a wonderful morning! It's so foggy right now I can't see across the yard; but it's supposed to go up to nearly 60 todayl and tomorrow. Forecast is for mostly cloudy, but no rain.
Yesterday was very busy. We got lots of cookies made (some recipes we will not do again; others turned out better than we expected!) I still need to do more baking, but glad I've gotten started. Perhaps tonight I'll get more done.
There are 10 days left until Christmas!

Today is "Halcyon Day (12/14-28)" ... "National Children's Memorial Day and Worldwide Candle Lighting" ... "Admission Day (Alabama)".

Quotes of the Day:
"Traditions are group efforts to keep the unexpected from happening."
-- Barbara Tober

"Do not believe that he who seeks to comfort you lives untroubled among the simple and quiet words that sometimes do you good. His life has much difficulty... Were it otherwise he would never have been able to find those words."
-- Rainer Maria Rilke

Today in history:
In 1896, the Glasgow Underground Railway was opened.

In 1911, Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen became the first person to reach the South Pole.

In 1997, with an eye to the planned visit to Cuba by Pope John Paul II in early 1998, President Fidel Castro announced that Christmas would be an official holiday for the first time since 1968.
