Good Morning! Thursday December 24, 2009

Good morning! It's a beautiful Christmas Eve morning. The ground is frosted, the sky is pale gold. It's going to be mostly clear and cold.
It's been a very busy week, right up to last night. We went to a friend's house to exchange gifts and have supper. It was a delightful evening ... and then I came home and got busy. I didn't do everything I had wanted to; but, I got the "important" stuff done. :)
As soon as I get off work today, we're headed east to our son's home for the holiday weekend. I will have limited computer access ... so I will post if I can. And if I can't .... I hope every single one of my readers and your families have a wonderful, warm, safe Christmas!
There are17 hours (7:00 am EST) left until Christmas!!

Today is "Christmas Eve" ... "Independence Day (Libya)".

Quotes of the Day:
"The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches, but to reveal to him his own."
-- Benjamin Disraeli

"What a grand thing, to be loved! What a grander thing still, to love!"
-- Victor Hugo

Today in history:
In 1871, Giuseppe Verdi's opera "Aida" premiered in Cairo. It had been commissioned to commemorate the opening of the Suez Canal.

In 1906, Reginald A. Fessenden, a Canadian-born radio inventor, broadcast the first musical program, accompanying on violin a female singer's "O Holy Night," from Brant Rock, Mass. He discovered the superheterodyne principle, the basis for all modern radio receivers.

In 1914, the World War I "Christmas truce" began.

In 1990, the bells of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow rang to celebrate Christmas for the first time since the death of Lenin.
