Good Morning! Friday July 9, 2010

Good morning! It's a beautiful morning. There's a faint mist, but it's quickly burning off. Today will be mid to upper 90s ... not exactly the "cool down" they predicted! We may get scattered afternoon storms (which means, of course, running sprinklers again!). Yesterday got hotter than predicted; well, it is summer! Although we're running a bit above normal, hot is "usual" for NC in July.
Last night I worked on some "seek-and-rescue" missions, searching for paperwork! LOL! I found most of what I was looking for. Also, my 2 grandsons (who live in GA) came by to say good bye ... going back home after much too short a visit. We won't see them again until Christmas (and we're more than half way there now! Woo Hoo! LOL!)
Tonight I have to (finally) go to the grocery store, and then catch up with the never-ending laundry. I expect that's all I'll get done! Well, it's Friday, so Yay! Weekend coming! :)

Today is "Flag Day (Alaska)" ... "Independence Day (Argentina)" ... "Youth Day (Morocco)".

Quotes of the Day:
"If you observe a really happy man, you will find... that he is happy in the course of living life twenty-four crowded hours each day."
-- W. Beran Wolfe

"Confusion is always the most honest response."
-- Marty Indik

Inspirational Joy for the Day:
Nothing is so strong as gentleness,
and nothing is so gentle as real strength.

Today in history:
In 1877, the first Wimbledon tennis tournament was contested at the All-England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club.

In 1893, Chicago surgeon Dr. Daniel Hale Williams performed the first successful open-heart surgery.

In 1947, Florence Blanchard, a nurse, was appointed lieutenant colonel in the Army, becoming the first woman to hold a permanent U.S. military rank.

In 1955, Bill Haley and the Comets' "Rock Around the Clock" hit No. 1 on Billboard magazine's best-seller records chart, marking what some consider the beginning of the rock 'n' roll era.

In 1968, the Hayward Gallery on London's South Bank was opened.

In 2002 sports, the All-Star baseball game ended in an 11-inning, 7-7 tie when Commissioner Bud Selig halted proceedings saying the teams had run out of pitchers.
