Good Morning! Saturday July 10, 2010

Good morning! It's a wonderful morning! It's all grayish and overcast, which means a reasonably good possibility of rain. It might not make it into the 90s today, though I'm not so sure on that. Last night the weather guy was talking about record-setting number of days in a row in the 90s (and didn't we do the same thing with cold weather this winter?). The garden doesn't mind the heat, but we sure could use some rain.
I got most of my laundry done last night, but not much else; nothing much on TV, so I went to bed early. I got up this morning full of good intentions ... and not much energy! LOL! Oh well. I have cleaned the kitchen and swept; I just have to finish putting the laundry away, and get things ready to go to a friend's house for the afternoon. I will probably do the long-put-off grocery shopping on the way home. :)

Today is "Clerihew Day" ... "Don't Step on a Bee Day" ... "National Hop-A-Park Day" ... "Admission Day (Wyoming)" ... "Independence Day (Bahamas)".

Quotes of the Day:
"The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues."

-- Seneca

Inspirational Joy for the Day:
"A Christian is never in a state of completion
But always in the process of becoming."
--Martin Luther

Today in history:
In 1890, Wyoming was admitted to the United States as the 44th state.

In 1925, the so-called Monkey Trial, in which John Scopes was accused of teaching evolution in school, a violation of state law, began in Dayton, Tenn., featuring a classic confrontation between William Jennings Bryan, the three-time presidential candidate and fundamentalist hero, and legendary defense attorney Clarence Darrow.

In 1938, industrialist Howard Hughes and a crew of four flew around the world in 91 hours, setting a speed record.

In 1962, the pioneer telecommunications satellite Telstar began relaying TV pictures between the United States and Europe.

in 1999, the U.S. team won the Women's World Cup in soccer, defeating China in the final on penalty kicks.
